Arm Lift

Arm Lift

In the upper arm region, sagging may occur due to aging, excessive weight changes and the sun's negative effects on the skin. The operation performed to extract undesired fat from this region and to restore tightness by removing the sagging of the skin is called “arm stretching“.

Why does the upper arm sag?

The skin loosens due to the loss of elasticity with aging, the abundance of the skin with excessive weight loss and the effect of gravity. Fat tissue just under the skin decreases and sagging occurs from the back and inner sides of the upper arm towards the elbow.

Main causes of sagging skin:

  • Aging
  • Effect of gravity
  • Sun's negative effects on the skin
  • Excessive weight changes
  • Fast weight loss
  • Lifestyle without sports

How is arm lift surgery performed?

Detailed planning and drawings are made by opening arms before the process. Excess skin is marked so much as not to disrupt arm contours and to provide sufficient tension.

Vaser liposuction may be sufficient if skin is tight but there is thickening.

Only a narrow incision under the armpits may result in recovery if there is a very small amount of abundance. However, if there is moderate/severe skin sagging and loosening, full arm stretching will be necessary.

Firstly, liposuction is applied to loosen the tissues and remove excess fat. Liposuction also allows the surgery to be faster and less bloody. The surplus tissues are then gradually removed with an incision that begins from under the armpit and extends as much as necessary towards the elbow. Finally the drain is placed and aesthetic closure is provided with hidden sutures.

Duration of surgery

An arm lift operation usually takes between 1.5 and 2 hours.

Anesthesia method

Surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia according to the technique and procedures to be performed.

Recovery after arm lift

Patients undergoing arm lift surgery with local anesthesia may be discharged on the same day. It will be safer to stay in hospital for one night in general anesthesia operations. You can take a shower 2 days after surgery. Elastic bands are used in the early days. Since the stitches are hidden and aesthetic, they do not need to be removed.

No sports should be performed for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery and physical stress should also be avoided.

Scars after arm lift

After the arm lift, the scars will remain in the inner part of the arm and will not be visible to others. These will become pink first, then fade over time.

The risks of arm lift surgery

Even if very rare, there still is a risk of bleeding, late recovery or opening of the sutures as after all surgical procedures.

People with a wound healing disorder, hypertrophic scarring or keloid tendency have a risk of significant scars.
